What would Yoda do?

Rosie Kenyon | Managing Director

I have never watched a Star Wars film but I don’t live on Mars, obviously I know it’s all about a girl with magic hair that stays perfectly set despite the running around she has to do, a boy who has the best light stick on the market (doubles as a very neat portable weapon), goodies, baddies and goodies that are now baddies, big furry pets and a very old green guy that talks a lot of sense.

That old green guy, Yoda, serves as the Grand Master of the Jedi order and as a high ranking General of Clone Troopers in the clone wars as his day job, in his spare time he is my coach. Surprised? It’s true he’s no eye candy but when he talks I’m mesmerised and I always come away thinking about how I can be a better person and use my super powers to change the world for the greater good.

He seems to be in the news again, some new film or something happening, so a great time for you to see this legend in a new light, let him into your world and benefit from probably the best business coach in the Empire. Here are his top 10 quotes, put together by his bosses in a lovely little video, I guarantee you will learn something from these wise words:

10. When nine hundred years old you reach, look as good, you will not

Learning; Use humour to ease difficult situations, be sensitive to those around you, make hard things as easy as you can for them

9. Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is

Learning; You may have over 900 years of experience but you know you don’t know everything and you are always learning

8. That is why you fail

Learning; Control, patience, faith and self-belief are our foundation, without mastery of these fundamentals we get frustrated when we don’t get the result we want

7. A Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defence, never for attack

Learning; When we learn from what is going on around us and look to understand we find compassion even in the harshest of situations, that is when real change happens

6. Judge me by my size do you?

Learning; Everyone is equal, beware of being judgemental, it makes the world smaller and nowhere near as much fun

5. Adventure, excitement. A Jedi craves not these things

Learning; Obviously, being a Jedi is awesome and I definitely crave adventure and excitement but we must make sure it’s for the right reasons, not used as a distraction or as a way of avoiding what needs to be done

4. Fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering

Learning; it’s said that everything we do stems from either fear or love, try and make it more love than fear. Fear is disabling and creates suffering on many levels

3. Wars not make one great

Learning; Violence, conflict and aggression are never the answer, nobody wins

2. Luminous beings we are…not this crude matter

Learning; “Poetic, mystical and beautiful” we are more than you see, getting beyond the physical and letting go of the material liberates us

1. Do or do not. There is no try

Learning; Never accept the half-hearted “I’ll try” what does that mean? Be in the present, commit, be brave and courageous

May the force and Yoda always be with you.
